Antwerp

A few days ago a few of my roommates decided it would be fun to go to Antwerp, Belgium for the day on Monday. I was checking out tickets on Sunday, while i was supposed to be studying and just decided to book the train because it was the cheapest/fastest/most convenient times..etc. And then came the interesting part. Aliisa was avoiding getting her ticket, and more was in The Hague for the day… so i was pretty nervous that i was going to end up going to the Hague by myself, which isnt a really big deal, but it would be a lot more fun with people. Aliisa was messing with me all day until Mor got home. they didnt book their tickets they would just do it in the morning. the original plan was the get the 9:33 train. That changed, by the time we got to the station we were going to make the 10:03 train to rotterdam. As mor was waiting on line he realized he didnt have any of his money with him. He had no clue where it was because he swore it was in his pocket. I told him that i had my atm card and i could layout money for him for the day so he didnt need to go back to get his money. then, i realized that i didnt even have my atm card. I had taken it out of my wallet to buy my train ticket the day before online and i forgot to put it back in. So then me and Mor bike back to Parnassos, grab our money, and head back to the train station. They got their tickets finally and we got on the 10:33 train. So, only really 1 hour behind schedule.

Got to Antwerp before 1pm. Walked passed some diamond stores. Nothing too impressive, but i dont think we were in the very very fancy diamond area. supposedly you need to get appointments to go into those stores anyway. Then we headed off to the center of town. Me and Aliisa decided to go to the bathroom at a mcdonalds, and when we were there we bumped into an Australian girl who is studying in Utrecht that both of us know. Even weirder is that Aliisa also bumped into her in Paris. CRAZY. She was nice and gave us a map because she had extra. So we walked around Antwerp, saw all the really important sites in the middle of town: The Groet Markt, Brabo’s statue (which is a water fountain with a guy throwing someone elses hand), the Groen Plaats, the old cathedral…and a bunch of other stuff that i dont remember the names of, Then we headed to the river schelde. Really pretty port. We sat for a while laying in the sun. We lucked out with weather. It was supposed to rain a little, but it never did until we got on the train back home. Then we walked down a few streets that are known for their shopping. Walked around some more. Then we headed to a bar next to the cathedral to drink some Belgian beer, of course. the name of the bar was ‘T Elfde Gebod. Its a big tourist attraction because it is filled with tons of holy statue things. It was kinda weird for a bar, but really pretty.  Then we walked around the city some more, bought some chocolate, which was delicious. Oh yea, earlier in the day i had some French Fries (btw,… french fries originated in Belgium). Walked around some more, bought waffles, and we were getting pretty tired.. we had been in antwerp for 7ish hours, so we headed for the central station and caught the 8pm train to rotterdam. We got home a little after 10, and i passed out because i was so tired.

Midterm exam today.. that i should be studying for right now….
